Trabajo de conservación en campo en Cuatro Ciénegas

What we do

Five ways to care for the valley

Caring for Cuatro Ciénegas is a job for many hands. These are the five ways we do it.

Water and Ecosystems

The valley’s more than 500 bodies of water depend on an aquifer that today is drawn down faster than it can recover. We work on soil and water projects, planned grazing, and grassland regeneration so that rain soaks in and the water returns to the pools.

Wildlife (Rewilding)

We reintroduce and protect the species that shaped this valley, beginning with the American bison, which returned in 2025 after more than a century away. Wherever native wildlife comes back, the ecosystem finds its balance again.

Regenerative farming and ranching

At our demonstration center we practice regenerative agriculture and ranching: growing healthy food while leaving the soil more alive than we found it. Fertile soils, more biodiversity, and an open-air school for the region.

Biocultural Education

Conservation happens with people, not in spite of them. We train young people and local schools, open the valley to regenerative tourism, and weave biocultural alliances with the region’s Indigenous peoples.

Regenerative Tourism

No landscape restores itself alone. We work hand in hand with government, science, conservation organizations, and community — in Mexico and beyond — so that the Cuatro Ciénegas model can grow and be replicated.
